The ascent of Láscar Volcano (5,592 m / 18,346 ft), the most active volcano in northern Chile, is located 70 km southeast of San Pedro de Atacama, in the Antofagasta Region. This excursion invites you to explore an impressive active stratovolcano, the site of more than 30 eruptions since the 19th century, set within a landscape of dramatic volcanic scenery and breathtaking views of the Atacama Altiplano. The program is designed for mountaineers with good physical condition and prior acclimatization, and operates exclusively under Green Volcanic Alert, following strict safety protocols. The route includes transportation by vehicle up to approximately 4,600 meters above sea level, from where a 3 to 4-hour ascent hike begins. For safety reasons, access to the crater is not permitted due to volcanic gas emissions and the risk of rockfalls. The tour is led by a certified guide, requires prior registration according to current regulations, and the use of high-mountain equipment. Under certain conditions, the use of a mask or gas filter may be required due to sulfur gases. The ascent of Láscar Volcano is an intense and authentic experience, ideal for those seeking a real challenge and wishing to feel the raw power of nature in one of Chile’s most impressive volcanic environments.
