To begin our tour, we pick up each of our passengers from their place of accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama. The pick-up time will be provided by the agency and may vary depending on the season. Once the group is assembled, we head southwest with our vehicle and guide toward the Los Flamencos National Reserve, specifically the “Valle de la Luna” (Moon Valley).
Upon arrival, we’ll do a brief check-in to enter the park. We go directly to the deepest part of the Reserve to visit unique geological formations known as Las Tres Marías (The Three Marys).
Our next stop will be the abandoned salt mines, which once drove regional trade during the early 20th century. We’ll pause for photos at the Amphitheater, a natural formation sculpted by desert erosion over millions of years.
We then continue with a moderate hike to the Duna Mayor viewpoint, one of the most iconic spots in the reserve. From here, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Salt Mountain Range, whose moon-like appearance gives the park its name.
Leaving the reserve, we drive to the highest point of our tour: the Kari Viewpoint. This location offers an awe-inspiring view of the Atacama Salt Flat and the Andes Mountains, with their majestic volcanoes—an ideal spot to watch the sunset. This viewpoint is one of the reasons San Pedro de Atacama was awarded the title of Chile’s Most Romantic Destination.
