4-Day Tour to Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world, located in southern Bolivia. It was formed through the evaporation of an ancient oceanic lake, and its surface covers nearly 11,000 square kilometers of salt. Although fauna is scarce in this ecosystem, you can observe pink flamingos.
Day 1 itinerary begins with the journey from Hito Cajón, the border between Chile and Bolivia, where we will clear customs to enter the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve. We will visit Laguna Blanca and Laguna Verde, connected by a narrow strip and situated at 4,350 meters above sea level. Next, we will explore the Salvador Dalí Desert, known for its reddish hues and sculpted rocks, located at an average altitude of 4,750 meters. Afterwards, we will visit the Polques Hot Springs and the Sol de Mañana Geysers, whose fumaroles reach heights between 10 and 50 meters, creating a breathtaking landscape. Finally, we will go to Laguna Colorada, a breeding ground for Andean flamingos due to the high mineral content in the water. The day ends at Hostal Wayllajara.
Day 2 starts with visits to the Boca de Dragón Geysers and Laguna Colorada. We will then exit the National Reserve and head to the Salar de Capina, where we will learn about local pastoralism and see a cultural demonstration. We will visit notable geological formations such as “The World Cup,” “The Camel,” and “Lost Italy.” Afterwards, we will visit Laguna Vinto and Laguna Katal, part of the tourist circuit that includes Anaconda Canyon and Zora Canyon. The day concludes with a tour of the ghost town community of Julaca, known for its artisanal beer production. Overnight stay at the Salt Hostel Villa Candelaria.
Day 3 begins with a sunrise visit to Salar de Uyuni to enjoy the best views. Then we will head to Incahuasi Island, which means “House of the Inca” in Quechua, home to a large number of giant cacti that can reach 10 to 12 meters in height. We will visit Playa Blanca Museum and the Dakar Monument. We will also see the Ojos de Sal, small natural saltwater lakes where underground rivers emerge. Next, we will visit the Colchani community, where you can observe various salt crafts being made. We will pass by the Train Cemetery on the edge of the salt flat, just a few kilometers from town, and finally arrive at the Uyuni office.
Day 4 begins our return journey. We will travel from Villamar back to Hito Cajón, cross customs, and return to San Pedro de Atacama.
