Full-day tour. We depart south of San Pedro de Atacama heading toward the Atacama Salt Flat. Our first stop is Laguna Chaxa, a conservation and breeding area for various bird species, including the most significant—the flamingo habitat. Breakfast is served at this point of the tour.
Next, we continue to the village of Socaire, where we’ll check in to enter the Piedras Rojas Reserve. Socaire is the last Chilean village before reaching the Argentine border at the Paso Sico.
Once in Piedras Rojas, we’ll explore the reserve on foot, hiking a 30-minute trail to reach the Salar and Laguna de Aguas Calientes Tres. We’ll spend about an hour and a half here.
Then, we’ll visit the viewpoint at Laguna de Tuyajto, the farthest point of our route.
On the return journey, we’ll visit the Los Flamencos National Reserve, including the protected Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons, which are home to unique flora, fauna, and archaeological corrals.
We’ll also stop in the village of Toconao, where we’ll visit its plaza, ancient church, and distinctive Liparita volcanic stone architecture. Here, we’ll have lunch before returning to San Pedro de Atacama in the afternoon, around 4 to 5 PM.
